Experience and memory gives substance to Tamarin Fraenkel’s creation and meaning. Imaginative play in her grandfather’s scrap yard in Germiston and imitating Micheal Jackson’s moves are the foundation of her expression. Repurposed junk that has the power to redefine movement.
Never really becoming comfortable with the title of artist, Tamarin is a multidisciplinary graphic designer who dabbles in photography and illustration. Under the alias of @spokoloc, Tamarin loves bondt (garish) colour and kitsch-esque feels. Tamarin has an obsession with music videos, a longstanding love with techno (thanks rave) and a deep fascination with typography and more recently code.
The last thirty years of life in South Africa have been imprinted into her soul. Aware that not all of the country’s cultures are hers to claim but rather celebrating and honouring the many facets of Mzansi and its people. She is on her way to the United Kingdom to explore the other side of her heritage.
Tamarin is proud to come from a long line of mechanics, championing a practical hands-on approach without being scared to get a lil’ grease under her fingernails.
